IGN.com reports, market research group Research and Markets predicts Sony to win the the new-gen console war. In their report “The Transforming Global Video Games Market: The Emergence of Next Generation Gaming” the firm predicts the PS3 to emerge on top in the console war based on current trends of growth in the industry:
“The group expects the PS3 to have an installed user base of around 75 million globally by the year 2010. While the study notes that both Sony and Nintendo offer unique products, Research and Markets still felt that Sony’s superior technology would give them the edge over the competition.
Although the group designated Sony as the future market leader this gen, they gave very little in the way of reasoning to back up this claim. The primary focus of the study was analyzing the impact of next-generation consoles on the online games sector, rather than determining the factors which might lead to dominance in the next-generation console market.”

We gave you a bit of an early look with today’s edition of DaddyGotGame’s Trailer Park, here’s a little more info on the EA’s plans to bring The Godfather to the PS3 and Wii this March as well as some screen shots.
Gamers can now taking on the roles as of either Enforcer or Operator on the to becoming Don of New York, each with their unique skill sets to develop over the course of a game. There are also new compounds for the rival families, contract hits and the ability to call in larger hit squads for tougher battles.

As seen in the trailer, The Nintendo Wii’s iteration, The Godfather Blackhand Edition, utilizes the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for what EA calls its “hyper-intuitive Blackhand control.” Essentially what this mean is the Wii Remote can be used for pinpoint accuracy when shooting and with the Nunchuck one can make body movements that control punches, grabs, headbutts, shoves, and attacks with mêlée weapons.

The PS3 will see The Godfather The Don’s Edition which will include The Corleone expansion pack which includes new gameplay and missions. New locals include a shipyard and rail yard and the SIXAXIS utilizes it’s sensors as you can shake it to shake up and push around your victims.

Both The Don’s Edition and Blackhand Edition are set to ship in March 2007.
Today we meet back up with Vito, Sonny and Michael with the Wii’s incarnation of The Godfather, find out size matters with Ratchet and Clank, and see trailer action from MVP 07 NCAA Baseball and Bladestorm as well.

Bloomberg reports Nintendo raised it’s earning forecast 20% on the strength of DS sales and Wii targets. The new estimate predicts Nintendo to reap $120 billion yen, about $1 billions for the fiscal year ending March 31.
On top of DS and DS games sales, Enterbrain Inc., a Tokyo-based research firm., said he company has gained ground in home console market after the Wii doubled PS3 sales in Japan during the launch and holiday period.
Nintendo sold 989,118 Wii units in Japan since the console became available on Dec. 2 according to Enterbrain. Sony sold 466,716 PS3 machines in Japan since its Nov. 11 release.
“Nintendo is going like gangbusters, and the Wii consoles are selling like hotcakes,'’ said Edwin Merner, president of Atlantis Investment Research Corp. in Tokyo. “They have momentum, and I think you can expect them to surpass earnings estimates for the next year or two.'’
According to Newsfactor.com and various media outlets, hackers are now cracking their way into the new game systems.
Hackers have already found ways to get into the Wii system through the “Wii-motes” and the Opera web-browser. The Playstation 3 console is also reported to be vulnerable to hacking.
Forrester analyst Paul Jackson told Newsfactor.com that despite the lack of malicious
takeover attempts to date, it’s possible hackers might use the systems as a possible way to steal information from potential victims:
“‘Any device that’s two-way and directed to a network is at risk,’ he noted. ‘The advantage most of these devices have is that they’re not running sophisticated operating systems like Windows or Mac OS X, so they’re not as attractive as targets.’”
For all the attention giving the launch of the Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 this holiday season, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 would move the most units to close out 2006 according to research firm IDC.
2 million 360s were sold from November to Christmas while Nintendo sold 1.8 million Wiis and Sony sold about 750,000 PS3s.
It may never be determined how those numbers would be changed without the numerous supply and manufacturing problems Nintendo and Sony experienced. Sony still holds 60% of the console market with the Playstation brand, however, Microsoft and Nintendo may chip away at the lead with these sales number in the new-gen.
Last night, Nintendo released a North American update for the Wii that enables the Forecast Channel a day earlier then expected. The Forecast Channel had already been available in Japan and Europe.
