EA Announces The Sims Stories

Electronic Arts announced today a new line of story driven The Sims games. The new line, entitled The Sims Stories, have been designed to be laptop friendly and don’t require any of the previous The Sims title to function.

“Everyone loves a good story. The Sims Life Stories, to ship Feb. 6 for the PC, gives players two wonderful romantic comedies to enjoy,” declared Rod Humble, VP Head of Studio for The Sims Division. “For those who are interested in The Sims, The Sims Stories are accessible and fun for everyone.”

The Sims Life Stories will be the first game in the new line to release. It introduces a new Story Mode involving a romantic comedic plot following the lives of Riley Harlow and Vincent Moore. EA describes the two as “different characters who have reached similar crossroads in their love lives.” As is the common gameplay element between The Sims Stories titles, player advance through the stories by accomplishing set goals or milestones such as gaining their first job and having their first date. The stories involve twelve chapters which can be played either strictly to the storyline or through the classic open-ended style of The Sims.
In effort to be more laptop friendly, The Sims Stories implements shortcuts and an all-new auto-pause that allows player to start and stop easily when opening or closing their laptop. The game will also have window that allows players to keep up with their email and instant messenger while playing.
Future titles in The Sims Stories line will include The Sims Pet Stories which will ship this summer and The Sims Castaway Stories which has a scheduled release date in Winter 2008.
