Sony Ships 1 Million in Japan
Sony reaches it’s goal of 1 million PS3 units shipped in Japan two weeks later than planned. Sony planned to have 2 million PS3’s shipped by the end of 2006 and reached that the 1 millions console shipment target in the United States the company said last week.
Deflecting concerns of a PS3 sales may be slowing in Japan, Sony noted in a press release today that 2 millions units of a console shipped within 2 month of launch as the fastest rate for the company to date.
Sony Computer Entertainment spokeswoman Nanako Kato acknowledged shipments were behind schedule, but also claimed the company was on track to meet their goal of 6 million PS3 machines shipped by March 31.

PS3 Demand Waning?
American Technology Research released a report today from which a 28 of a group of 52 surveyed stores still had PS3’s in stock while Nintendo Wiis were sold out. American Technology Research analyst Paul-Jon McNealy said that those stores with Sony’s new console in stock typically had them low single digit numbers. He also added that it’s too early to determine whether the most-expensive next-gen console is actually suffering a loss in demand, a conclusion that would take more time to monitor PS3 inventories.
